One of the nicest things about a self-catering holiday is simply having the freedom to do what you feel like. There are no set breakfast times, no need to dress for dinner and no timetable to follow. Bring the things you enjoy, settle in and make the space your own for a few days.

Bring Your Home Comforts

Pack your favourite food and drinks, books you've been meaning to read, board games for the family or the devices you use for your favourite online games. Bring the children's favourite toys, your walking boots, golf clubs, bikes or wetsuits – whatever makes a holiday feel like a holiday to you.

Having your own kitchen also means you can eat when and how you want. Cook breakfast in your pyjamas, make a picnic for the beach, pick up something delicious locally or order a takeaway and have a night in.

Stay Home or Go Out

Some days are made for exploring. Wander into North Berwick for coffee, spend the afternoon on the beach, walk part of the John Muir Way or head off to discover more of East Lothian.

Other days, you might not feel like doing very much at all – and that's fine too. Make some coffee, start that book, play a game, watch a film or sit outside and enjoy having nowhere you need to be.

That's really the appeal of self-catering. Your time is entirely your own.

Pack for the Holiday You Want

Whether your idea of a great break involves early morning walks and busy days exploring or leisurely breakfasts and quiet afternoons doing very little, you can bring along whatever you need to enjoy it your way.

Pack the things you love, leave the usual routine behind and enjoy a few days living at your own pace.

You can even bring your pet!

Your four-legged friend deserves a holiday too!
